I've always loved physical activities and team dynamics. I played lacrosse in high school and invested myself in helping the team get focused and emotionally engaged. Sadly, I was involved in the drug life. My potential was capped because I was too invested in stuff that didn't matter. Long story short, I became a drug addict. Eventually, I decided I didn't want to live like that anymore and the rest is history. I earned my Bachelor's Degree with a 4.0 and opened CrossFit OYL with my best friend, Mike. Those wins only came after getting around people who built me up and focusing on taking ownership in the areas of my life that matter most. Those experiences built me into a coach that wants to see people take ownership and act on the things that are most important to them.
I used to be a drug addict, addicted to prescription pain killers. I tried a lot of ways to get clean, including a failed year in rehab. All those failed attempts came from external pressure, something outside of me that gave me a reason to stop. I blamed everyone else and all the circumstances for why I was where I was. Finally, I decided internally that I was the reason I was a drug addict, and only when I took ownership could I change. That was January 28, 2011, and I have been sober since. That lesson of personal ownership overarches how I coach and interact with people who want to change. I know everyone is capable of change if they are willing to take ownership of where they are and start working towards where they want to be.
I am here to help others take ownership of their health and fitness, and, as a result, their lives. We built OYL to be a place where people can start the process of taking ownership that also bleeds into every area of their lives. We love seeing our members win and advance in their lives as they start living out what is important to them.
